Pre 1972 contributions are always welcome for ALL AREAS of this web site - Anecdotes - Drawings - Documents - Film Clips - Forms - Information - Instructions - Photographs - Regulations - anything and everything!
If the contributed material is under Copyright please give the name & address of the Copyright owner if you know it.
However, it should be borne in mind that the Waterguard site was not designed or intended for 'transitory' items - Articles offered for sale or for free, Notices of meetings, Obituaries or Tributes - such items can, and should be, posted on the associated Rootsweb e-mail list - hm-customs-waterguard-l@rootsweb.com.
All contributions can be made by post. Your items will be scanned into digital form and returned to you immediately. If you don't want your contributed material returned to you please say so - it will then be offered to the Customs & Excise Museum in Liverpool after scanning. Contributions are also acceptable on CDs and DVDs.
Contributions by e-mail, or sent as attachments to an e-mail, should be sent to trevor.tomasin@hm-waterguard.org.uk and, where possible, should be in one of the formats mentioned below.
! There is a limit to the size of any e-mail attachments that can be transmitted via the internet - regardles of any ISP's claims - so check your attachment's file size before sending !
The Supanames limit on the Waterguard account is 2Mb - 5Mb
(depending on how busy the Supanames servers are)
DO NOT send attachments of any size with an e-mail addressed to HM-CUSTOMS-WATERGUARD@rootsweb.com. Rootsweb do not allow attachments via their system.
Contributions submitted by PDF interactive forms work best with the latest version of Adobe Reader - It is recommended that you download your FREE copy using the 'buttons' provided where applicable.

Attachments sent with an e-mail may have a 'unique file number' to you the sender, but what about me, the recipient? My in-box attachment directory will only hold one 'Photo01.jpg' at a time so it either overwrites what's already there or ignores the new.
I always move identifiable attachments to a unique sub-directory as soon as they arrive but to make sure yours are not lost due to duplicate file naming. I recommend you use the prefix WGD and include the date you sent the attachment and your initials as part of the file name, then any name or 'unique' number. For example 'WGD 07-06-2007 AFW Photo 3.jpg' or 'WGD 19-10-2006 PTJ Text.doc' or even 'WGD 28-02-2007 VJT Output.pdf'
Either in the body of the e-mail or as a word processed document as an attachment to the e-mail.

Your details - following the format shown below - can be in the body of an e-mail - with any photographs sent as an attachment to it - or if you prefer, you can select the 'button' on the right, complete the displayed Waterguard CV details form and then:

To ensure uniformity of design, I prefer to scan items myself - you can post the document to me and I will scan it and send it back to you by return of post - but if you don't trust the post and wish to scan the item yourself please follow the following advice:
Photocopies:
A4 documents, or smaller, can be photocopied at their original size - without any reduction or enlargement - and the copies sent, unfolded, by post. But as I will have to scan the photocopies they should be very good quality, clear copies and aligned with the edge of the paper. If the original is smaller than A4, the copy should be positioned in the centre of the paper.
'Legal', 'Foolscap' or larger documents & papers:
All documents & papers larger than A4 size should be posted to me and I will arrange to have them scanned to a PDF and send them back to you by return of post.

If taken especially for contribution to the site, photographs should include the actual subject in the centre and a margin or background of approx 15% all round the subject to allow for final editing.
Can be forwarded in their 'native' file format but I would prefer them in either JPEG or TIFF formats if possible. Do not reduce or increase from your original size.
To ensure uniformity of design, I prefer to scan items myself - you can post the photograph to me and I will scan it and send it back to you by return of post.
But if you don't trust the post and wish to scan the photograph item yourself please use the JPG or TIF file formats, but I can convert most graphic file formats. Please DO NOT reduce or increase the size from your original and please make sure you scan the whole photograph - beyond the edge of the image if possible - not just to the edge.
Generally photographs, either black & white or colour, will not photocopy well enough for the photocopies to be scanned for reproduction on the Internet. If you can't scan and e-mail them to me as attachments yourself, please post them to me and I will scan them and send them back to you by return of post.
My scanner can handle these with ease. Please post them to me and I will scan them and send them back to you by return of post.
Digital video clips in the Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player and RealOne Player (RealPlayer) formats can be forwarded as e-mail attachments or by post on data CD or DVD.
Movie film footage - 8mm, 16mm or 35mm - and digital tape can only be used AFTER conversion to one of the digital file formats above. I do not have the funds, expertise, equipment or computer programs to handle this conversion, sorry.
If the contributed material is under Copyright please give the name & address of the Copyright owner if you know it.
