From A Local Paper - 1st February 1822.
'Mr Foreman, Master Sitter in the Preventive Service, took possession of a Mevagissey smuggling boat with 170 kegs of spirits. He went below with the Captain, gave his pistols to a servant with the muzzles pointing towards himself, a gun went off and he died'. - Bill Parkyn
First Impressions

In the early 1960's 'DJO' was posted to the islands as the Preventive Officer in Charge. An article in the January 1963 edition of the Customs Journal - 'Penetrating silence and intensive light' - recorded his first impressions of the islands and gave a little Customs history of the islands.
